Stephen R. Covey starts off here by explaining That Habit 1 says that we are the person in charge. He goes on to further explain that Habit 1 is based on the endowments of Imagination, Conscience, Self-Awareness and Independent Will. Habit 1 is what allows us to make the decision to change when we find ourselves following a script in life we don’t like.
Habit 2, Stephen tells us, is the First Creation of the things we want in future. This creation takes place in our mind and it is our conscience that helps us to form this vision in a way that is in line with our deepest universal principles and values.
So, what then is Habit 3 in the scheme of things? Stephen writes that it’s the culmination of habits one and two. It is the second creation (or reality) of what our minds eye helped us to create through the use of habits one and two. Mr. Covey says that Habit 3 has to do with personally managing our selves based on principles. It has to do, too, with having a clear vision of where we are going (a right brain activity) and taking care of the day to day aspect of getting there (a left brain activity).
